Attending the Learning Disability Partnership Board

One of our Caseworkers, Sian, attended the Learning Disability Partnership Board’s Monthly Meeting last month. In this blog, she tells us a bit about her experience.

Last week I was invited to the Learning Disability Partnership Board’s monthly meeting to speak about Victim First and raise awareness of our service. I gave a short easy read presentation to the board, followed by discussions and workshops with professionals and self-advocates.

The day was a success and meant I was able to reach out to an often overlooked group within the community.  Many people approached me throughout the day to speak about their experiences of being a victim of crime and having a learning disability. I was able to offer advice and guidance to these individuals who felt unable to come forward previously and encouraged them to feel confident in accessing support in the future.

We are always striving to make our service more inclusive, so events like this offer us a great opportunity to celebrate the things we have already achieved and to learn more about how we can continue to improve. Overall a great day, reaching out to some of the most vulnerable people within our community and building some great links to help us further develop our service going forward.
